Fundraising

EFCAB receives grants from Epping Forest District Council, Essex County Council & Parish/Town Councils in the District to help us meet the costs of our core services. As a charity the bureau relies on grants and donations and we are grateful for donations from individuals and corporate sponsors. District and County Council funding goes some way towards financing our core costs but, we continue to struggle to maintain adequate funding levels for the bureau, not only to cover our core activities, but also towards new projects, enhanced outreach services and home visits to those people who are unable to visit the bureau due to disability or ill health.

How you can help us:

Make a donation towards our running costs to enable us to continue to provide our service to the community.

We always need money for equipment in general or for our premises, for example, to improve access for people with disabilities.

If you are upgrading office furniture and equipment, we may be able to make use of your old items.

Sponsorship money for items such as leaflets, posters and our annual report could help improve the promotion of our services to the local community.

Make us the Charity of the Year at your company. Donations from raffles or contests, no matter how big or small, are always welcome.

If you are a company do you have staff that you could second or encourage to volunteer some time to provide mentoring or offer skills to the bureau, such as fundraising activity for a day.

Charity Giving - On-Line Donations

Charity Giving are a non-profit organisation that facilitate on-line giving. Donations can be made anonymously and the bureau will receive a printout of donations received. The fee Charity Giving charge for facilitating payments is 3% of any net donation made and of course the bureaux will receive the balance. Donors can set up standing orders to give regular amounts as well as one-off donations and this will also be managed by Charity Giving.

Gift Aid Tax Incentives for businesses

Businesses play an important part in the society in which they operate. The Government believes businesses can be part of the challenges our society faces today - helping to build a fairer society with stronger communities and a more productive community for all. The challenge is to translate the widespread social concern that exists within the business sector into effective action for the common good. One of the ways the Government is encouraging businesses to get involved is through Gift Aid.

Your business can claim tax relief on a donation, whether it is large or small, one-off or regular, by using Gift Aid, which is a scheme by which tax relief is available for donations of money. The way Gift Aid works depends on whether your business is a company, sole trader or partnership.

Gift Aid for Companies

To give through Gift Aid your company simply pays the money to charity. Your company does not deduct tax from the donation and does not need to make a Gift Aid declaration to the charity. To get the tax relief, you deduct the amount of the donation from total profits prior to calculating you company's corporation tax.

Gift Aid Self-Employed

Gift Aid donations from the self-employed are treated in the same way as Gift Aid by individuals. Therefore your donation will be treated as paid out of taxed income and the charity will be able to reclaim basic tax rate on the donation from the Inland Revenue. So for every £1 given, the charity claims a further 25p. As a sole trader, you will be required to complete a Gift Aid declaration for the charity. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can get relief on the difference between the basic rate and the higher rate of tax on the gross amount of the gift - you simply show the amount of gift on your tax return.

Gift Aid for Partnerships

Gift Aid donations received from businesses that are run as partnerships are treated as donations of equal amounts from the individual partners, unless the partnership decides to split them in different proportions. The tax position will be as for Gift Aid by self-employed individuals.
